Greenock Academy Site - Blair

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader Alan Blair has raised concerns over the future of the Greenock Academy site and the possibility the site will be advertised on the open market in order to realise the largest possible capital receipt without fully assessing the sites potential.

The Inverclyde Liberal Democrat group are looking for some thought being given to how best to develop the site in the long term interests of Greenock.

Alan Blair said “The site is a key one in Greenock’s West End as there are currently no significant open space between Wellpark and Battery Park.

Most residential areas of that size, either part of a larger conurbation or an independent one, would have much more open space and also some kind of central area for community use.   The lack of this in a highly populated area is regrettable and the only possible solution to the problem is to use part of the Academy site such a purpose.

It seems to me that rational discussion should take place about possible options, rather than simply a “knee jerk” decision to seek the highest price for the area”.
