Inverclyde Road Maintenance - Blair

Liberal Democrat Councillor Alan Blair has welcomed the pre-indication recently given that the Policy and Resources Committee of Inverclyde Council will be considering some emergency funding for roads maintenance, although has questioned why this has not occurred sooner.

Alan Blair said “This represents a very belated reaction to public concern with regards to the Council’s record over the last four years on this area of work… the Council has been assessed by the official Auditor as the second last in Scotland.”

”Responsibility lies with the Council itself for its repeated failure to fund road maintenance adequately.”

Alan Blair also expressed concern at the way in which any extra funding will be spent.

“The Roads Department has been forced to use a fairly large part of its resources on simply “patching”.   Local residents frequently provide examples of patching which has a very limited life, and which either has to be renewed after a fairly short period or simply returns to pothole status.”
