Sophie Bridger - Greenock Needs Roads Fit For 21st Century

Sophie Bridger, Scottish Liberal Democrat Inverclyde by-election candidate, has highlighted Greenock's dilapidated road network and claimed that the area is being left behind by the SNP Government.

Ms Bridger highlighted SNP cuts being passed directly on to local councils as the reason for the poor condition of Inverclyde's roads.

According to a report by Audit Scotland, Greenock's roads are the second worst in Scotland. Potholes are cited as a major problem with many residents complaining of damage to cars as a result of the poor road conditions.

Commenting, Ms Bridger said:

"It is totally unacceptable for the SNP to claim they are protecting local services while passing on swingeing cuts conceived and controlled from Edinburgh onto local councils. This leaves councillors no option but to cut the vital front-line services on which we all depend.

"Greenock needs a road network fit for the 21st century to encourage regeneration, and to attract business to the town. If the SNP continue to ignore these problems, Greenock will be left behind while the SNP pursue their separatist agenda.

"This is about roads in Greenock, not the road to independence."
