Sophie Bridger - SNP talk is cheap on local jobs

Sophie Bridger, Liberal Democrat candidate for the Inverclyde by-election, has hit out at the SNP for pledging to bring jobs to Inverclyde while at the same time slashing the regeneration budget.

Riverside Inverclyde was set up by the Lib-Lab coalition to help revive communities and create local jobs. However, the SNP Government in Edinburgh cut the budget by 40% which threatens to derail regeneration projects.

Commenting, Ms Bridger said:

“The SNP's candidate says jobs are her top priority. But she was in the Scottish Parliament when the SNP Government slashed funding for local jobs by 40%.

“Riverside Inverclyde was one of the only companies building anything during the recession. At a time when people across the west coast are worried about their jobs this is a reckless cut that came from Edinburgh, not London.

“If the SNP candidate couldn't stand up to cuts as an MSP, why should we trust her to fight for local people as our new MP?

“Inverclyde needs a commitment to regional development that grows the local economy. The work that Riverside Inverclyde does is vital and I am committed to ensuring it continues.”
