Commenting, Mr Rennie said:
“Sophie is an excellent young woman and has so much to offer the constituents of Inverclyde. She is young, vibrant and brings a breath of fresh air to this by-election.
“Sophie is determined to stand up for local people and the local issues that matter to them, like jobs and having good road networks.
“The SNP Government in Edinburgh has left Inverclyde behind. Labour has had their chance here and Inverclyde needs real change. Sophie and the Liberal Democrats offer that change.
“Young people are leaving the area in their droves and they need opportunities. The SNP hasn’t done nearly enough to get people into work. Scottish Liberal Democrats want to work with local people to create those opportunities.
“We want to cut red tape for small businesses so they can grow and take on more staff. We want to stimulate a generation of new technology jobs by making Scotland the most digitally connected country in Europe. We want to create new green jobs through a commitment to Scottish renewables and energy.
“These are solutions that matter to local communities, right here in Inverclyde.”
