Fyfe - Main Issues Report

Cllr Tom Fyfe - Kilmacolm and Quarriers press release

The adopted Inverclyde Local Plan will be replaced by a new Local Development Plan in 2014. Inverclyde Council has just published a Main Issues Report (MIR) which is an important step towards creating the new Local Development Plan. This MIR can be downloaded from the Council website (www.inverclyde.gov.uk) and is open for public consultation which ends on July 22nd.

The MIR basically supports the status quo for Kilmacolm and Quarriers.

”Kilmacolm and Quarriers have inadequate infrastructure required to cope with new development in comparison with the alternative strategy of development on more centrally located brown field sites.

Furthermore, there is no requirement for significant additional housing in this sub-market area as demonstrated in the HNDA (Housing Need and Demand Assessment). Finally the sensitivity of the landscapes around these villages is such that significant new development would be detrimental to their individual characters.”

However, land owners and developers have suggested release of green belt at 14 locations around Kilmacolm and Quarriers. These sites are essentially the same as those successfully defended at the Local Inquiry in 2004. So we should gear up now for a rerun of those battles.

Main Issue number 11 raises options for creating a new Conservation Area around Kilmacolm Cross and public comment on this possibility would also be welcomed.
