Inverclyde Liberal Democrats back Willie Rennie as New Leader

Local Liberal Democrat activists have welcomed the appointment of Fife MSP Willie Rennie as leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Chairman, Simon Hutton, said:

“I have known Willie Rennie since his sensational by-election victory in Dunfermline five years ago. He is a determined campaigner with a track record of winning from Labour.

“Our party must reflect on its poor showing in the recent Scottish Elections and move onwards and upwards.”

Commenting on his selection, Mr Rennie, said:

“I’m delighted to be the new leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

“Scotland needs a strong Liberal voice at all levels of government. And I am determined to see that strong Liberal voice flourish.

“Scotland needs us to stand up for local services, for long term solutions and for making our country a place that finds opportunities for aspirational Scots.”
