Council Tax System in Need of Reform - Anderson

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Vice Chairman Gordon Anderson has stated that Scotland’s Council tax system needs to be reformed and that current plans to freeze council tax for the next five years can not be the be and end all.

Gordon Anderson has urged the Scottish National party to utilise new powers in the Scotland Bill to reform the current system.

Gordon Anderson said “The Scottish National Party need to be bold and ambitions, freezing the council tax does not resolve the fact that the current model of taxation is still seriously unfair and I hope that we can work with them, and them with us so that we can reform the current model of taxation”

“It is not fair that under the current system people are taxed on the value of their property instead of how much they earn and can actually afford to pay, and I believe the Scottish Government should start putting plans in place to change the system as soon as is viable.”
