INVERCLYDE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS CALL FOR REVIEW ON SNP POLICE REFORMS POLICY

Inverclyde Liberal Democrats have highlighted concerns over SNP plans to reduce the number of Police forces in Scotland after Alex Salmond being re-elected as First Minister of Scotland.

Inverclyde Vice Chair Gordon Anderson said: “We need the SNP to rethink their plans and prevent the creation of a single centralised National Force; such a step will cost millions and disrupt the positive work against crime.

“If they were to move ahead with a plan to create a single national police force it would drain resources and local accountability. The Scottish Policing board have stated it will cost around £92million investment to make a change to a single force.

“Instead of centralisation we need our local police forces to protect victims and support communities by focusing on what works to cut crime and I hope the SNP review their position on this matter so we police remain accountable and not under direct command of any politician”
