Economic Complacency by SNP - Anderson

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Vice-Chair has accused the SNP of severe economic complacency in the wake of new economic figures which show the rate of unemployment in Scotland is now 8.5% — higher than the UK rate of 8.3% for the first time since the start of the year.

Inverclyde Vice-Chair Gordon Anderson said: “A few weeks ago at First Ministers questions Alex Salmond was Boasting about how the Scottish Economy was in a better position than Labour run Wales.”

“Other than the shameful political point scoring and spin directed at the Welsh Assembly he should have been focused on matters at home”

“They have since tried to direct the blame at the change in figures at Westminster, but they need to be accountable for their own performance. If they are serious about Independence they need to utilise the powers they have and not just play games in attempts to out PR their main opposition in the Labour Party”

“The People of Scotland want and deserve jobs, not squabbles between the SNP and the Labour party.”

Labour finance spokesman Richard Baker said unemployment had reached ''disaster levels'' and demanded an urgent change of strategy from the SNP.

He added: “… The SNP are happy to take credit when things go well, but must take responsibility when they are bad.''
