Scotland Bill could be killed off by SNP - Anderson

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Vice-Chair has accused the SNP of severe hypocrisy over their attempts to prevent the Scotland Bill being implemented.

The bill would mean increased borrowing powers and increased financial accountability within the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood, by allowing the parliament to control its own income tax levels from 2015. The Bill also includes the devolution of powers such as drink drive laws, speed limits and air guns.

Inverclyde Vice-Chair Gordon Anderson said: “It is a disgrace that a party which states it wants more powers for Scotland has decided to treat a bill which would give Scotland increased fiscal powers in such a disgraceful manner"

I would have expected their wish to be to improve and strengthen the power of the Scottish Parliament through further devolution, and making MSPs more accountable for the decisions they make in future budgets”

“The powers outlined in the Bill would allow this Parliament to borrow more money to build roads, railways and homes. This is so important for Scotland’s future economic growth”

“The SNP made last minute demands for additional powers but failed to provide evidence in time, they should be ashamed of the way they have behaved on this important issue.”

“The Scotland Bill was made in Scotland and it should not be killed in Scotland, the SNP need to get their house in order and do what is in the best interest of Scotland instead of preparing their PR battle for the Independence referendum”
