Tax Avoidance and Evasion - Anderson

Inverclyde Liberal Democrat Vice Chairman Gordon Anderson has celebrated the role of Liberal Democrat MPs in ensuring that the UK Clamps down on tax avoidance and evasion.

Gordon Anderson said “The Labour party failed to take this important step when they were in Government and I don't believe that the Conservatives would have been as willing to do so had they not been pushed - especially given their high profile financial backing by Lord Ashcroft"

"Clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion will be worth around £7 Billion by 2015, it is no laughing matter that previous governments failed to take appropriate and sufficient steps to do this"

"By clamping down on Tax evasion and avoidance it means that the Government can spend money on things that add value to our communities such as; the £3 billion the Liberal Democrats have secured for a Green Investment Bank, bringing 91,000 Scots out of Income tax and also giving thousands more (on low and middle incomes) a £200 cut in Income tax"

"I thoroughly believe that we have a duty to build a fair, free and open society - and ensuring that tax is paid is certainly part of that."

*** More than 2,000 tax inspectors will be recruited to investigate tax avoidance schemes and also to investigate the top 350,000 top earners
