Jedburgh Job Losses A 'Bitter Blow'9.38.00am GMT Wed 25th Mar 2009 MP Michael Moore has described the job losses at Jedburgh Kiltmakers as a ‘bitter blow’ to the town and the region’s economy. Mr Moore will be discussing the closure with the region’s economic development officials and has asked for an update on the support that is being offered to the families involved. He has asked for the Jedburgh action plan to be updated urgently. Mr Moore said: “This is a bitter blow for Jedburgh and the surrounding area. The Kiltmakers produced quality goods over many years and its demise is another indication of how serious this recession is becoming. It is vital that the individuals affected get immediate support. “The need for support in Jedburgh has been recognised for a long time and was the subject of an important conference in the town hall last year. We now need to see that support made a reality and I will be meeting with local officials to press for further action.”
