Sectarianism and bigotry in all forms should be stamped out

3.10.19pm GMT Mon 23rd Nov 2009

Commenting on a report from the STUC which calls for the legal requirement of firms to monitor sectarian incidents in the workplace, Liberal Democrat Equalities spokesperson Hugh O'Donnell MSP said:

"I support calls for the development of sensible reporting procedures in Scottish workplaces to help tackle sectarianism.

"The SNP Government has allowed this issue to slip down the agenda following the pioneering work of the previous executive.

"Currently, Ministers do not even know how their plans for tackling sectarianism will fit into the forthcoming UK Equalities Bill. This is unacceptable and a clear sign that the SNP Government aren't taking this issue seriously enough.

"Tackling this unacceptable national shame must be a top priority. Sectarianism and bigotry in all its forms must be stamped out."
